The US Department of Justice announced the arrest of assets of Russian businessmen for $ 500 million

Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, the United States has seized the assets of Russian businessmen for more than $500 million, Deputy Attorney General of the United States Lisa Monaco said during her speech at the plenary session of the G7 Justice Ministers meeting in Tokyo.

“We seized the assets of Russian oligarchs and other persons in the amount of more than $500 million,” – reported Monaco (her speech is available on the website of the US Department of Justice).

She also said that more than 30 individuals were charged with sanctions evasion, export control violations and other sanctions-related offenses. “International partners have made arrests in more than half a dozen countries with a view to extradition to the United States,” Monaco said.

Summer 2022 US Treasury reported that the International Russian Assets Tracing Group blocked or froze more than $30 billion belonging to the Russians who fell under the sanctions. The group also helped to freeze the reserves of the Bank of Russia in the amount of about $300 billion, arrest or freeze the yachts and luxury real estate of Russians who fell under sanctions, and restrict Russia’s access to the global financial system.

In March, the US Treasury, citing a statement from the REPO group (Russian Elites, Proxies, and Oligarchs) told that the US and allies have blocked or frozen more than $58 billion of assets of Russian citizens over the past year. The Kremlin called the blocking of assets a theft and promised to take action.
