According to the official, Washington has imposed clear limits on how these funds can be spent. Tehran will be allowed to use them to purchase medicines and medical equipment, but it is forbidden to use them for any military purposes.
A day earlier, the media reported that Iran and the United States agreed to a prisoner exchange deal. According to sources, in exchange for the release of Americans imprisoned on charges of espionage, Tehran will gain access to $6 billion of its assets frozen for humanitarian purposes.
The White House initially confirmed only information that five citizens of the United States, who were held in prisons in Iran, had their preventive measure changed. They were placed under house arrest. At the same time, the US administration emphasized that US citizens detained illegally.
