The US allowed the use of force to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon

US President Joe Biden is ready, as a last resort, to go for a military solution to the issue of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, US Special Representative for Iran Robert Malley said on Wednesday.
Mally noted that this is not currently necessary. The US still sees diplomacy as the best solution to the Iran nuclear deal, he said. “We still hope that we will find other means and that Iran will change its current path,” said Mally (quote according to TASS).
Earlier, White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said that restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian Nuclear Program (JCPOA, or “Iranian nuclear deal”) does not seem possible in the near future.
At the end of October, Malley announced that the United States had excluded negotiations on the renewal of an agreement on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program from its agenda. If diplomatic tools fail, Washington could use sanctions and even military force against Tehran, he noted.
Negotiations on the resumption of the Iranian nuclear deal, from which the United States withdrew in 2018 and renewed the sanctions lifted along with the deal, resumed in Vienna in April 2021. At the end of December of the same year, the eighth round of negotiations began.
