US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said some time ago, senior US administration officials told the Kremlin directly that “any use of nuclear weapons would have catastrophic consequences for Russia.”

Sullivan added in an interview with CBS that the US and its allies intend to act decisively in this case. He did not elaborate on the steps that Washington could take, but noted that in a conversation with the Kremlin, what this would entail was specifically stated.

In addition, Sullivan promised that the United States would continue to support Ukraine.

Asked about the channels through which the statement was made, Sullivan said that it remains possible at high levels to speak directly with Moscow, deliver messages and receive messages from Russia.

“It’s happened a lot over the last few months, it’s happened even in the last few days,” he explained.

Recall that earlier the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the statements of US President Joe Biden from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly, said that he “attributed to the President of Russia the words that our country threatens the world with nuclear weapons.” Zakharova called it “indecent.”

Recall that in his address, Vladimir Putin said that Russia would be ready to “use all the means at its disposal” to protect its territorial integrity and its people.
