The United States urged to stop the reactors at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant

The United States calls for a temporary suspension of the operation of the reactors at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, informed TASS, citing John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council.

He noted that the United States fully supports the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the station and believes that Russia should provide safe access to the station for inspectors. “We also believe that the Russian Federation should agree to the creation of a demilitarized zone around the station. We continue to believe that a controlled shutdown of the ZNPP nuclear reactors will be the safest and least risky option in the short term,” Kirby emphasized.

Earlier in the day, Vladimir Rogov, a representative of the military-civilian administration (CAA) of the Zaporozhye region, in his Telegram channel informedthat as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the ceiling of the premises of the special building, which stores fresh fuel for reactors, was broken. IAEA Director Rafael Grossi said that the agency’s mission went to the Zaporizhia NPP. Grossi reiterated that the purpose of the mission is to ensure the safety and security of “the largest nuclear facility in Ukraine and Europe.” Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stressed that the mission is guaranteed security during the visit to ZNPP.
