The United States resumed imports of Russian oil in the fall – Kommersant

The United States is again purchasing Russian oil after a year and a half break. Information about this follows from the materials statistical department USA, which drew the attention of RIA Novosti.

According to published data from the American statistical agency, in November 2023, the United States purchased 10 thousand barrels of oil from Russia. The total import value was $760 thousand. Agency “RIA News” notes that in October 2023, the United States purchased 36.8 thousand barrels of Russian oil. The total cost was $2.7 million.

Due to the start of a special military operation in March 2022, the United States introduced a ban on the import of Russian fuel. The country purchased the last batch of Russian oil in April of the same year.

January 9 Energy Information Administration (EIA) US Department of Energy published forecast for the average price of Brent oil this year. According to the department, the price will be $82 per barrel. Analysts note that due to the unstable situation in the Middle East, price increases and supply disruptions are possible.

In mid-December 2023, Brent and Russian Urals crude oil rose by 8-10%. This is due to regular Houthi attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. Also in early January, Libya’s largest oil field was shut down due to protests. Libyan company announced Force Majeure.
