The US authorities are currently in contact with Russia to avoid conflicts. This was stated by White House spokesman John Kirby.
As the American official noted, such communication channels work, for example, in Syria, where Russian and American troops are in the neighborhood. In Europe, these communication channels also work, Kirby said, without specifying whether Ukraine is also meant by Europe.
Earlier, the commander of the US Marine Corps, General David Berger, suggested that the lack of communication channels between Russia and America could cause a world war due to a minor conflict, like an accident with an unmanned aerial vehicle over the Black Sea.
