The United States imposed sanctions on the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) and the 924th State Center for Unmanned Aviation of the Ministry of Defense on charges of purchasing Iranian drones (UAVs), follows from a statement by the White House.
The statement said the US will discuss with its allies a “defense partnership” between Russia and Iran.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry previously accused Iran of supplying weapons to Russia, including drones that are allegedly used during a special operation in Ukraine. After that, on October 20, the European Union imposed sanctions on the three generals and Shahed Aviation Industries, which develops drones.
Russia and Iran have denied such accusations. In particular, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that during the NMD, Russia uses only Russian equipment that has a Russian name. The Iranian Foreign Ministry reported that Russia would not receive weapons for use in hostilities in Ukraine from Iran. According to the representative of the department, the Iranian side believes that the solution to this crisis is in the political plane and any supply of weapons to the parties to the conflict puts off the prospects for a peaceful settlement.
In early November, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that the republic supplied drones to Russia, but the transfer occurred before the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
