The United States is ready to enter into dialogue with the Russian side on the development of an arms control system after 2026, when the Strategic and Offensive Arms Treaty (START) ends. The State Department announced this on Tuesday, October 31.
The American Foreign Ministry assured that they are ready to “enter into these discussions” and also expressed their readiness to interact with Russia on issues of nuclear risk management.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said that the United States sent Russia a proposal on the topics of strategic stability and arms control. However, the diplomat emphasized that the notorious proposal does not contain “novelty” and represents “a known position brought together.”
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out that the result of Western policy in Europe was the destruction of the system of confidence-building measures and arms control, which includes US withdrawal from a number of security treaties.
