Pentagon: US intends to produce up to 80 thousand shells per month to more actively support Ukraine
Assistant Secretary of the US Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Douglas Bush, during a speech at the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that the United States by the end of 2024 will be able to produce up to 80 thousand artillery shells monthly, which will allow Washington to provide more active support for Ukraine.
Speaking about conventional ammunition, particularly the 155 mm caliber, Bush indicated that the United States is on track to produce 70,000 to 80,000 rounds per month by the end of the current calendar year. The Assistant Secretary of the US Army noted that this will allow Washington to do several things at once, namely, more fully support Ukraine and replenish its own reserves and those of allies who have recognized the need for larger reserves. He also emphasized that this will increase production capacity.
As Bush noted, the United States is increasing production of Javelin anti-tank missiles, GMLRS guided missiles, ammunition for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs), Stinger man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and other weapons used in Ukraine. He added that in order to increase production to 100 thousand shells per month by the end of next year, additional funding from the US Congress is necessary.
