The Ukrainian side is open to resuming negotiations with Russia on a peaceful settlement of the conflict. This statement was made on Wednesday, August 9, by US State Department Speaker Matthew Miller.
The official commented on publications that the UAE leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is ready to organize a meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, on the sidelines of the upcoming UN Climate Conference, which will be held on November 30 in Dubai.
According to Miller, Zelenskiy “has been making it clear for some time” that he is “open to negotiations with Russia respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
At the same time, the representative of the State Department expressed his conviction that Zelensky himself would have to make the final decision on such a meeting.
The Turkish National Security Council previously called on Russia and Ukraine sit down at the negotiating tableas well as to stop hostilities, emphasizing that the escalation of tension in the Black Sea is not in anyone’s interests.
However, ex-Pentagon employee Colonel Douglas McGregor said that the US authorities did not intend to discuss a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, since such a step would be perceived as an admission of defeat in the conflict.
