Washington is inferior to Moscow and Beijing in influence in the UN General Assembly (GA), as evidenced by voting data at its sessions over the past 30 years. Newsweek writes about this.
“Experts…reviewed more than 1,500 cases from 1991 to 2020 in which Russia and China disagreed with the US. The position of these two countries prevailed in 86% of cases,” the publication clarifies.
The authors believe that the two leading countries achieve the attention and trust of members of the Global South through the BRICS, SCO and G-77 alliances of emerging economies. All of these structures create the potential for a soft balancing strategy for the United States.
Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said at the 78th session of the General Assembly that the world community is heading towards a “great rift” in trade and the economy. According to him, misunderstandings among economic and military forces are increasing, which threatens to destabilize the economic and financial mechanism, as well as trade relations between states.
