The UN urged to remove obstacles to the extension of the grain deal

The UN calls for the removal of all obstacles to the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Deputy Secretary General of the organization Rosemary DiCarlo said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“We call for the removal of all obstacles to ensure the continuation of this agreement,” leads her words to RIA Novosti.

June 21, Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the Kremlin does not see the prerequisites for extending the grain deal, since the agreements are not being implemented. June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with military informed that the Kremlin is thinking about exiting this deal. June 20 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Vershinin admitted completion of the grain deal on July 18 due to non-fulfillment of agreements. However, he did not rule out the possibility of a new round of consultations with the UN. Prior to this, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko declaredthat the memorandum between Russia and the UN on the supply of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets will continue to operate in the event of termination of the grain deal.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN, on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine, on the other. Separate agreements were concluded with Moscow and Kiev: the first was for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk, and the second was for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. Moscow has repeatedly noted that the second part of the deal is not being implemented. In May, the deal was extended until July 17.
