The UN Secretary General doubted the speedy peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine

A peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine is not expected in the near future, as the parties “decided to continue.” This was stated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

“I don’t have much hope that we will have a peaceful solution in the near future. I believe that both sides decided to continue the conflict,” stated Guterres (quote from RIA Novosti).

Guterres called do not blame the organization for the actions of its members and do not make the UN a “scapegoat”. UN member countries must be held accountable for their actions, he added.

Following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on September 4, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan statedthat there are no prospects for achieving peace in Ukraine on the horizon. At the same time, he expressed hope that the conflict “will end as soon as possible with a just and lasting peace based on international law.”

Russian authorities previously pointed out the impossibility of negotiations with Ukraine due to Kyiv’s refusal at the legislative level to engage in dialogue with Moscow. At the end of July, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains open to negotiations, which, according to him, cannot be said about Ukraine. As the Kremlin representative noted, Kyiv maintains an “irreconcilable position,” even being “in a rather difficult situation.”
