The UN Secretary General called for an immediate end to hostilities in Karabakh

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and a return to the implementation of the trilateral agreements of 2020. About this it says in a statement by UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric.

“The Secretary-General calls in the strongest terms for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation and stricter compliance with the 2020 ceasefire agreement, as well as the principles of international humanitarian law,” the statement said.

Dujarric noted that Guterres is concerned about the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and reports of casualties, including among civilians. The Secretary General calls on the parties to the conflict to make efforts to ensure “long-term peace in the region,” the press secretary added.

On September 19, Azerbaijan began “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order” of the republic. Yerevan called Baku’s actions “large-scale aggression.” The Ombudsman of the unrecognized republic, Gegham Stepanyan, previously reported on X (formerly Twitter) that 27 people have already been killed during the fighting, including two civilians. He later clarified that the number of civilian casualties had increased to seven, two of them children.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov statedthat Moscow sees the possibility of entering into peaceful negotiations to resolve the escalation of the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry called parties to the conflict around Nagorno-Karabakh “immediately stop the bloodshed” and return to the implementation of trilateral agreements.
