The UN General Assembly Committee adopted a resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism

The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution submitted by Russia to combat the glorification of Nazism, reported TASS.

112 countries voted for the adoption of the resolution, including Israel, China, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates. 50 countries opposed it – including Germany, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, the USA, and the Netherlands. 14 countries abstained.

The resolution “Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance” was prepared by Russia together with Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, China, North Korea, etc.

The document consists of 74 points and includes provisions on the strong condemnation of incidents related to the glorification and propaganda of Nazism, welcoming efforts to preserve historical truth, and recommendations for taking measures to prevent the denial of crimes against humanity.

In addition, the resolution includes the point of inadmissibility of revising the history and results of the Second World War.

One year ago, on November 4, 2022, the General Assembly Committee also accepted Russian draft resolution on combating neo-Nazism. As the Russian Foreign Ministry reported, 105 countries voted for the document, 52 countries opposed it, and another 15 abstained. Italy, Austria and Germany also opposed it at that time.

The Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Grigory Lukyantsev, said that “representatives of Germany, Italy and Austria swore to us that they would never, for reasons of principle, be able to vote against a document that condemns the glorification of Nazism.”
