The UN General Assembly (GA) has adopted a resolution put forward by Arab countries that calls for an immediate truce in the conflict zone between Israel and Palestine, writes “RIA News”.

According to the agency, 120 countries voted for the resolution, 4 abstained, while 14 opposed it.

The UN General Assembly resolution on the exacerbation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was prepared by Jordan and 40 other countries. It condemns violence against civilians on both sides, and also calls on the parties to the conflict to organize an immediate humanitarian truce, which will ultimately lead to a cessation of hostilities. In addition, the resolution contains a call to release illegally held prisoners, to comply with humanitarian law – not to attack peaceful civilian targets.

Earlier on October 27, Israel announced the expansion of the ground operation in Gaza, the country’s defense army (IDF) reported. The media write about the increased intensity of airstrikes against targets in the Palestinian enclave, as well as about the entry of armored units of the Israeli army into Gaza. The Palestinian group Hamas has already announced that it is repelling a ground invasion in the eastern part of the Al-Bureij camp.

In recent weeks, the IDF has announced a full-scale ground operation in Gaza. This was preceded by an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on southern Israel on October 7. According to the latest data, about 8,000 people have died during the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, including more than 6,500 Palestinians.
