The Times: Ukraine is more heavily mined than Afghanistan and Somalia

Paul Heslop, manager of the UN demining program in Ukraine, speaks to a British newspaper The Times stated that the scale of mining in Ukraine is several times more serious than it was in Afghanistan and Somalia.
According to him, he has worked in the field of mine clearance around the world for 30 years. He managed to visit many places, from Somalia to Afghanistan.
“Now I can say that everything else, except for Ukraine, was just an exercise,” Heslop noted.
He clarified that at the moment Ukraine, in terms of the number of mines and unexploded ordnance, exceeds everything that Europe has faced since the Second World War.
