Politico: Austin will try to reassure Kyiv and allies after the “drain” of Pentagon documents
The main task of the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, will be to demonstrate the confidence of the United States in Ukraine and its capabilities after the leak of intelligence data from documents containing negative forecasts regarding the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the depletion of weapons in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes Politico, citing senior military officials and diplomats.
According to one of the unnamed European diplomats, the leaks are negative, but they will not affect the exchange of information with the United States and plans to continue supporting the Ukrainian side. The upcoming meeting in Ramstein “should go very well,” and, above all, the event will be aimed at solving the problems of ammunition production at the enterprises of the military-industrial complex, the stocks of which have dried up due to military aid packages to Kiev, the source of the publication shared the details on condition of anonymity.
So far, US Department of Defense officials say they are not overly concerned that the “leakage” of classified documents will damage relations abroad or the ability of Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin to try to rally and appease Western allies so that they transfer military products to Ukraine, the publication emphasizes.
