Amendments to the Federal Law “On Security” have been submitted to the State Duma (DG) for consideration, which will give the president “powers to protect” citizens from the decisions of foreign or international structures. In the same document, the authors of the initiative propose to amend the Criminal Code, providing for punishment for facilitating the execution of such decisions.
“This decision will allow us to protect the country from illegal, hostile and aggressive actions of various international organizations,” one of its authors, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, described the bill.
Together with Mr. Volodin, the leaders of all Duma factions and other deputies prepared the initiative. The development of such amendments by the speaker on April 3 instructed Deputy Chairman Irina Yarovaya and chairmen of relevant committees Andrey Kartapolov and Vasily Piskarev.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. According to the international organization, Mr. Putin and Ms. Belova “are allegedly responsible for war crimes related to the illegal deportation of the population (children) from Ukraine.”
Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov Raising the Question of Mr. Putin’s Arrest named unacceptable and outrageous, and the ICC warrant itself null and void.
