“I ask you to recommend to the highest officials of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and the departments of Rospotrebnadzor in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation to lift coronavirus restrictions on holding rallies, processions, pickets,” the appeal says.
According to the vice-speaker of the lower house, there is a “high alert regime” in many regions, which is why local administrations prohibit rallies, processions, and pickets. However, holiday events, including concerts, are held holiday concerts.
Davankov will take part in the Moscow mayoral elections, which will be held on September 8, 9 and 10. For the post of head of the city, he will fight with the current mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin (from United Russia), Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (from the Liberal Democratic Party), State Duma deputy, head of the Moscow branch of A Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth Dmitry Gusev, Deputy of the Moscow City Duma, grandson of the leader of the Communist Party Leonid Zyuganov and others.
In addition to the current restrictions due to the pandemic, in December 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law expanding the list of places where meetings, rallies, marches and demonstrations are prohibited. Now it is forbidden to hold actions at airports, railway stations, ports, on the territories of schools, universities, hospitals, churches, in the buildings of public authorities and in the territories adjacent to them, etc.
