The State Duma in the first reading denounced the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, write “RIA News”.
The day before, May 31, the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots approved this draft law in connection with the accession of the DPR, LPR of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia, as well as the loss of the status of a coastal state by Ukraine in relation to the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait.
The bill to denounce the treaty was introduced to the State Duma by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 24. The explanatory note states that Ukraine withdrew from this treaty on March 25.
The agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait was signed at the end of 2003 in Kerch. The agreement emphasized the importance of economic development between the two countries and the preservation of the economic and natural complex of water areas.
