The State Duma created a group to limit the funding of foreign agents and departed artists

A working group has been set up in the State Duma to develop proposals to ban foreign agents and cultural figures who have left Russia and criticize the country from receiving income from creative activities on the territory of the Russian Federation. This was announced by the deputy chairman of the lower chamber, Petr Tolstoy.

The working group will be headed by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Irina Yarovaya. Tolstoy also joined the group. The names of other participants are not specified.

“The task is to find a fair solution in this extremely delicate and delicate area, although the State Duma receives appeals with quite radical proposals from our voters,” wrote MP in his Telegram channel.

Tolstoy stressed that “it is not worth making money in a country you hate.” He also spoke about “proven facts of support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine” with funds earned in Russia.

The State Duma has been actively discussing penalties and restrictions for citizens who have left, “slinging mud” at the country, since January 2023. Then the speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin spoke with the initiative to seize property from such Russians and proposed to supplement the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with an article on confiscation of property for extremism, rehabilitation of Nazism and discrediting the Russian army. Later, he clarified that when developing measures, the approach should be different, taking into account who and what of those who left “done”.

At the end of March, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev urged prohibit foreign agents from earning money in Russia. He suggested that appropriate amendments be made to the law on foreign agents. Then, on April 7, Volodin launched in his Telegram channel, a survey in which he invited subscribers to express their opinion on the idea of ​​banning funding for citizens who “sling mud” at Russia.
