The State Duma Committee on Information Policy recommended rejecting the proposed amendment to ban video games that promote LGBT people and also contain pornography, violence and cruelty. About it informs “RIA Novosti” with reference to the head of the committee Alexander Khinshtein.
“The committee is against regulating the industry by introducing an amendment to the second reading, which is rather vague, in our opinion,” Khinshtein explained.
He added that such an amendment could lead to a ban not only on games that promote LGBT people, but also other products that contain “any shooting games.” According to the MP, the bill already involves amendments to the law on consumer protection. Thus, Khinshtein added, products that violate the law will not be allowed to be sold anyway.
At the same time, the deputy noted that the committee is ready to start developing a separate law that would regulate the video game industry.
November 11 First Deputy Head of the State Duma Committee on Education Yana Lantratova as amendments to the law on LGBT propaganda suggested to limit in Russia computer games that promote violence, cruelty, profanity, as well as containing information about the methods of manufacturing drugs and methods of committing suicide.
Tighter controls on video games earlier suggested and the head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina. She also advocated limiting the work of Twitch and Trovo streaming platforms in Russia. According to Mizulina, they threaten the life and health of children, since drug stores are often advertised on the sites.
