The State Duma commented on publications about Kyiv’s intention to seize Crimea

The information that Ukraine was preparing for a campaign against the Crimea confirms the existence of real plans for an attack on Russia, wrote head of the Duma committee on international affairs and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Leonid Slutsky in his Telegram channel.

Thus, Slutsky commented on the words of the deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security and Defense, Mikhail Zabrodsky, who said that Kyiv was planning an operation to seize Crimea in 2023.

“In fact, far from being the last representative of the current government admitted that Ukraine was preparing for the extermination of the population of Donbass and a campaign against Crimea. Russia had no choice but to prevent aggression, protect its citizens, our land,” Slutsky wrote.

The politician noted that the maneuvers to seize the Crimea are doomed to a complete military failure: the peninsula is reliably fortified. “Any such attempts will receive an immediate and devastating response,” he added.

The special military operation began on 24 February. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum. According to its results, 96.77% of voters in the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of joining Russia. Nevertheless, Kyiv continues to insist that Crimea is Ukrainian territory. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the issue of Crimea is “finally closed.”
