The State Duma approved the issuance of a residence permit for those who signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense

The State Duma Committee approved a proposal to issue residence permits to foreigners who have signed a contract for service in the Russian Armed Forces and their family members, writes TASS.

According to the amendments, in order to obtain a residence permit, foreign contractors will not need to obtain a temporary residence permit. The bill also provides for the granting of an indefinite residence permit to highly qualified specialists and their families if they work in Russia and have a residence permit for at least two years.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma by the Russian government on April 4, 2022. The document was adopted in the first reading on June 9. The explanatory note to the bill says that the amendments will create additional conditions for doing business and increase the investment attractiveness of Russia. The amendment on granting a residence permit to foreign contractors was introduced into the bill for the second reading.

May 15 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law is amended to enable foreigners who have entered into a one-year contract to serve in the Russian Armed Forces or other military formations to apply for Russian citizenship. In a simplified form, citizenship can also be obtained by spouses, children and parents of foreign contractors.
