Russia has decided to suspend the payment of contributions to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC). This statement was made by the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, and. about. head of the Permanent Delegation of the Federal Assembly to the PABSEC Olga Timofeeva, report “RIA News”.
On December 7-8, the capital of Serbia hosts the 60th anniversary meeting of the PABSEC General Assembly, which is attended by representatives of the countries of the Black Sea region, including Russia and Ukraine. As the agency notes, before its start, the Ukrainian delegation hung out a national flag with slogans in front of their table. And during the confirmation of the members of the delegations, the participants from Ukraine aggressively demanded the withdrawal of the Russian representatives. Timofeeva stressed that at the moment it is impossible to imagine the PABSEC without Russia. “And when it turns into a circus and a booth, and someone has the right to say that ‘they don’t like this candidate or deputy,’ then we are parliamentarians and defend the position of our country,” she explained.
The chairman of the committee stated that the Russian side decided to suspend the payment of membership dues, “because without constructiveness and common sense, it is absolutely pointless and useless to work.” But Russia will remain a member of the PABSEC, Timofeeva added.
At the same time, as State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin said, some delegations from other countries supported the Ukrainian participants. “We are very sorry that this happened in Serbia, which, beyond suspicion in this matter, supported us,” the deputy said.
PABSEC was established in 1993 on the initiative of Russia and Turkey. It includes delegations of the parliaments of 13 member states of the BSEC Organization: Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, North Macedonia (since January 1, 2022), Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine.
