During the week beginning July 31, U.S. and Ukrainian authorities will begin negotiations on security guarantees in a virtual format. This information was confirmed by the United States Department of State.
The US Foreign Office said the talks would involve certain defense commitments, but declined to give any details.
Earlier, a military expert, reserve colonel Anatoly Matviychuk noted that the planned negotiations between Kyiv and Washington regarding security guarantees, apparently, could become step towards a peaceful settlement conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In his opinion, “Zelensky is ripe for the conclusion of a peace treaty, he needs to stipulate the “price” of this treaty and the red lines he has the right to cross in the context of territorial concessions.”
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has indicated that Moscow has no objection to providing security guarantees to Ukraine, but this is possible only if observance of such guarantees for Russia.
