The head of the committee of the Russian Union of Tourism Industries, Alexey Musakin, said that there is a growing shortage of personnel in the Russian tourism industry. The number of vacancies posted on the market, according to him, significantly exceeds the number of resumes of applicants.
“In September 2023, the number of vacancies in the tourism and restaurant and hotel business posted on hh.ru increased by 40% compared to the same month of the previous year. And the number of resumes decreased by 17%,” said Mr. Musakin (quoted from “Interfax”).
He added that on average about three people apply for one vacancy in this area. The norm in the labor market is five to six resumes, he added. The ratio of vacancies to applicants, he said, in most regions is half the norm.
Alexey Musakin named low wages as one of the reasons for the personnel shortage. In September, the average salary in the hotel industry, as a PCT representative clarified, amounted to 39.9 thousand rubles. with applicants’ expectations of 50 thousand rubles.
In December 2023, the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences reportedthat the personnel shortage in Russia at the end of the year amounted to approximately 4.8 million people. The shortage of employees, as specified by the institute, has increased sharply over the past two years.
