The share of the ruble in payments for exports has decreased everywhere except America – Kommersant

Over the last quarter of 2023, the share of ruble payments for Russian exports decreased in almost all areas of trade compared to the third quarter. America was the exception. This is reported by Frank Media with reference to data from the Central Bank.

The share of rubles in payments for exports to Asia has been declining since July 2023 (then 41.7%). In the fourth quarter of the year, the figure decreased from 35.9% to 33.1%. The share of transactions in the currencies of unfriendly countries, on the contrary, increased – from 20.2% to 23.5%. The share of the ruble fell most significantly in payments for exports to Africa – from 45.4% to 26.6%. The only direction in which trade in rubles began to increase over the month is America. From September to December, this figure increased significantly – from 20.1% to 35.2%.

Over the year, the share of the ruble in Russian exports decreased to 36.1% from 37.2%. At the same time, the share of settlements in friendly currencies increased from 19.1% to 37.2%, and in unfriendly currencies it decreased from 43.7% to 26.7%. In annual comparison, the share of the ruble in settlements for December exports with the Caribbean countries increased the most – from 26.9% to 91.7%. Over the same period, the share of unfriendly currencies in settlements with Oceania increased significantly – from 16.9% to 64.4%.

But in the calculation of imports, the share of the ruble in the fourth quarter increased in almost all areas. There was a slight decrease in Asia – from 24.5% to 24%. For the entire year, settlements showed the same trend: the percentage of settlements in rubles and friendly currencies increased, while in unfriendly currencies it decreased. The share of the ruble for imports increased at the end of the year to 31%, compared to 28.8% in December 2022. The share of friendly currencies in settlements over the same period increased from 21.2% to 40.8%, while unfriendly currencies decreased from 50% to 28.2%.
