The Lebanese Hezbollah movement has effectively deployed a second front in northern Israel, creating a potentially explosive situation in the region, warns Professor Ephraim Inbar, president of the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS). He explained to RIA Novosti that tensions are currently assessed as low, but experts warn of the possibility of escalation at any moment.
“The second front has already been opened, the tension at the moment can be described as low, but the situation can escalate at any moment. Israel is trying to restrain Hezbollah from actively joining the war,” he emphasized.
According to the Lebanese News Agency, the conflict began with Israeli shelling in areas of southern Lebanon. In response, Hezbollah launched strikes into northern Israel, which led to retaliatory artillery attacks by the Israeli military and shelling of Hezbollah observation posts. Several Israeli soldiers were killed during the clashes.
