The SCO countries adopted a final declaration

Following the July 4 summit in New Delhi, the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) adopted a declaration in which, among other things, they agreed on the need for more equitable international cooperation and the formation of a multipolar world order. “Member States, relying on the similarity or coincidence of assessments of the current regional and international agenda, reaffirm their commitment to the formation of a more representative, democratic, fair and multipolar world order,” the document says.

In addition, the SCO countries announced the need to reform the World Trade Organization (WTO) with an emphasis on development and adaptation to modern economic realities, and also opposed unilateral sanctions and interference in the internal affairs of foreign states. The summit participants also reaffirmed the idea that outer space must remain free of weapons.

The SCO countries also agreed to declare 2024 the Year of Ecology in connection with the importance of cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the development of specially protected natural areas and ecological tourism.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow supports a draft declaration that reflects the goals and objectives of the SCO member states, and also contains a consolidated position on the main issues on the international agenda. Putin added that the SCO is firmly committed to building a just, multipolar world order based on international law.

On July 4, the SCO summit is held online for the first time under the chairmanship of India. The SCO member states are invited to the event: China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Iran, Belarus and Mongolia are taking part in the summit as observers. On the same day, Iran officially became a member of the SCO.
