The Scholz government in Germany succeeded in speeding up the procedure for changing sex

In Germany, they will simplify the administrative procedure for people who want to change their gender. The Cabinet of Ministers of Chancellor Scholz managed to reach an agreement on this topic. The newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung wrote about his conclusion, citing a source in the SPD faction.

The agreement published by the publication provides that potential non-binary, intersex or transgender people will now only have to fill out a simple application that they want to change their gender or name in the civil registry. Up to this point, it was necessary to receive two. According to this agreement, published by the daily newspaper, transgender, intersex and non-binary people in the future will have to provide a simple declaration of themselves if they want to change their name or gender mention in the civil register. At this stage, the procedures are determined by a law from the 1980s, which de facto treats transience as a mental illness: people wishing to change their gender must submit two psychological reports, and the competent district court makes the decision.

The agreement defines the issue of gender reassignment by minors. For children under 14, only parents or guardians can initiate the procedure. For those over the age of 14 whose parents dispute the process, the court will have to decide. The change of gender in civil status will take effect only after three months. A possible new gender change request will only be possible in a year. It should be noted that the government of the Social Democrat, German Chancellor Scholz, in alliance with the greens and liberals, in November 2022 adopted an extensive action plan that provides, among other things, for securing the rights of minorities in the Constitution.
