Independent Belarusian media distributed clippings from a television report in which the abbess of the Grodno convent Gabriela (Glukhova) tells the patriotic reporter Grigory Azarenka about the sin of her compatriots who left the country. From the words of the clergywoman, who was elevated to the rank in 1995 by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus’, Belarusians who do not support Alexander Lukashenko must repent of their pride and suffer punishment in order to save their souls.
“If they don’t repent of this, there’s a direct road to hell,” said the abbess.
She expressed confidence that Lukashenko himself, as the owner of a “merciful heart,” has already forgiven the participants in the 2020 protests. Otherwise, “few people would be free,” the abbess explained.
“Every runner who ran away from us. You better come back,” mother added, “let your comrades from the police, honest, decent ones, work with you, bring you to order, and you will again become who you may have been.”
At the end of the conversation, the abbess expressed the opinion that life in Belarus is quiet and peaceful and blessed the correspondent loyal to the authorities.
