The Russian Foreign Ministry explained the lack of contacts with the West on the issue of human rights

Russia currently has no contacts with the West on human rights issues, as they are unwilling to listen to an alternative point of view. This was stated by the Special Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Human Rights Grigory Lukyantsev.

“There are no more contacts, because we often observe that there is simply no desire to listen and listen to a different point of view,” noted Lukyantsev (quote from RIA Novosti).

According to the diplomat, the human rights bodies are aware that this topic is being politicized, but they do not make it clear. The topic of human rights is still used by some countries that prepare “politically motivated reports” as a pretext for interfering in the internal affairs of independent states, Lukyantsev said.

Since September 16, 2022, Russia has ceased to be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights and has withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The corresponding resolution was issued by the court in March after the termination of Russia’s membership in the Council of Europe.

On June 7, 2022, the deputies of the State Duma adopted bills on non-compliance in Russia with the judgments of the ECtHR. Amendments were made to the drafts for the second reading, according to which decisions of the ECtHR adopted after March 15, 2022, when Russia announced its withdrawal from the Council of Europe, will not be implemented. Payments for decisions made before March 15 will be made only to accounts in Russian banks and in rubles, and the supremacy of decisions of Russian courts over decisions of the ECtHR will also be secured. Later, on June 11, 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed laws on non-enforcement of ECtHR judgments in Russia.
