The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Ukrainian armed forces. About it declared in a diplomatic office.

“We strongly condemn the destruction by the armed forces of Ukraine of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which led to a large-scale humanitarian and environmental catastrophe,” the Foreign Ministry said.

They specified that as a result of the explosion of the dam, thousands of people need to be evacuated, and the agriculture of the region and the ecosystem of the mouth of the Dnieper suffered enormous damage. The ministry said that the water supply to the Crimea would be difficult and there would be problems with the improvement of agricultural land in the Kherson region.

The Foreign Ministry considers the incident a pre-planned “terrorist act” of the Kyiv regime for military purposes. “The Kiev regime not only subjected the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station to massive shelling, but also deliberately brought the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir to a critical level by opening the floodgates of the Dnieper hydroelectric power station,” the department added.

“We call on the world community to condemn the criminal acts of the Ukrainian authorities, which are of an increasingly inhuman nature and pose a serious threat to regional and global security,” the Foreign Ministry said. Russia will advocate consideration of the “crime of the Kyiv regime” in international organizations, including the UN Security Council.

The breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which was 11 m. The mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, specified that three settlements in the Novokakhovka district have already been completely flooded. Earlier, a local state of emergency (ES) was introduced in the district. The authorities, together with the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, are taking measures to eliminate emergencies in flood zones, as well as protect houses, roads, socially significant objects of the district and evacuate people.

The Russian and Ukrainian sides were accused of undermining each other. The Kremlin said that Kyiv committed a deliberate act of sabotage, and stressed that Moscow denied accusations that it was allegedly involved in this incident.
