Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the country is “quite quickly” getting off the technological needle of the West. The head of state expressed this opinion during a meeting with participants in the Congress of Young Scientists.

“Our so-called – at least that’s what we called them – partners believed that they had hooked us on a technological needle and we would never get off it. And thanks to the efforts of people like you and your colleagues, it turned out that this is possible. And it’s not just possible, but it’s happening quite quickly,” Mr. Putin emphasized.

According to him, the ability of the Russian Federation to quickly get rid of dependence on Western technologies speaks of the failure of the sanctions policy, which unfriendly countries began to adhere to after the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

On November 1, the President of Russia, during a meeting with members of the federal government, also said that Western sanctions policy has failed, but called for preparations for a possible increase in restrictions. Vladimir Putin has said that “countless packages of sanctions” imposed on Russia have hit Western economies and jobs as a result. Now, the head of state said, restrictive measures are “reaching the point of absurdity.” As an example, he pointed to the discussion of a possible ban on the export of “screwdrivers, needles, and so on” to Russia.
