The Russian Embassy in Warsaw sent a note to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a request to confirm the information about the detention of a Russian citizen and the charges against him. About this with reference to the diplomatic mission writes TASS.

“Until now, no official information has been received from the Polish competent authorities to the Russian embassy and consular offices in Poland in this regard. We keep the issue under control,” the embassy said.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated the agency that Russia expresses its strong protest to Poland in connection with what happened and demands an explanation. She specified that the detainee would be assisted.

30 June Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland reported about the arrest of a Russian hockey player from the “club of the first league”, without naming him. The Polish department claims that the athlete allegedly collected information about critical infrastructure in several voivodeships, and also transferred it to “his clients”, for which he received a reward.

The hockey player was detained in the province of Silesia at the direction of the Lublin Department of the National Prosecutor’s Office, which was investigating a spy network that collaborated with Russian intelligence, the Prosecutor General’s Office specified. He was charged with participation in an organized criminal group and carrying out actions against the interests of Poland. The maximum punishment under this article provides for imprisonment for a period of 10 years. The prosecutor asked the court to place the detainee under pre-trial detention due to the high risk of escape.

According to the investigation, the hockey player has been in Poland since October 2021. The RMF24 TV channel reports that the detainee is 20 years old. He became the fourteenth person who was detained as part of an investigation into a spy network.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained earlier that the Kremlin does not have more detailed information about the detention of the Russian in Poland, the embassy will deal with this issue.
