The British sanctions against six Russians in connection with the case of politician Vladimir Kara-Murza (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) are an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Russia. This was stated at the Russian Embassy in London.

“We consider the imposition by the UK authorities on July 31 of restrictive measures against six Russians in connection with the trial in the case of Vladimir Kara-Murza as an unacceptable attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of our country,” declared at the diplomatic mission (TASS quote).

The purpose of the UK’s actions is to influence the work of the Russian justice system in order to change the sentence passed on the policy, but “this is not the first time we have seen such arrogance,” the embassy stressed. They noted that the sanctions are legally null and void and contrary to the foundations of international law.

July 31 UK included to the list of persons and companies subject to sanctions, three presiding judges, state prosecutors and a forensic expert. All of them are banned from entering the UK, and their assets are subject to a freeze.

The day before, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction left the verdict of Kara-Murza, which was handed down by the Moscow City Court in April, is in force. The first instance sentenced the politician to 25 years in prison and a fine of 400,000 rubles. Kara-Murza was detained in April 2022 on suspicion of disseminating deliberately false information about the army (clause “d”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to investigators, the politician, during his speech in the Arizona parliament, spread fakes about the Russian army. Kara-Murza himself did not admit his guilt. Later, cases were opened against the politician on participation in the activities of an undesirable organization (part 1 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
