The Russian Embassy accused the United States of trying to hide data on sabotage at Nord Stream

The US is trying to cover up reports of sabotage on the two Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, claiming that “independent” investigations by European countries are sufficient. This statement was made by the Russian Embassy in the United States, text published in the department’s Telegram channel.

“We see in this an obvious attempt by local authorities [США] hide behind the actions of allies. The Russian embassy also recalled the “problem of potentially enormous environmental damage” from explosions. “And it’s not just about large-scale fuel leaks that have already occurred due to sabotage,” the embassy said, stressing that all parties should be interested in preventing such situations in the future. The embassy recalled “hundreds of thousands of munitions with poisonous chemicals sunk at the bottom of the Baltic Sea after World War II,” some of which were sunk near the Danish island of Bornholm. “Taking into account the worn-out condition of the shells, explosions in this water area threaten an unprecedented environmental disaster and irreparable damage to the states of the region. Whether these risks were calculated by the perpetrators of the terrorist attack – one can only guess, ”concluded the embassy.

Two subsequently discovered leaks were in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more were in the Danish EEZ. Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, stating “increasing suspicions of gross sabotage”, but those responsible for what happened were not named.
