The Knowledge portal, which is called the Russian analogue of Wikipedia, is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2023. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maxim Shadayev. Now more than 100 thousand articles are posted on the portal, while Wikipedia has more than 1.8 million.
“Our main task is to have our own portal, the Knowledge portal, which is based on updated materials from a large Russian encyclopedia… It is planned that this resource will be launched early next year,” Mr. Shadayev said during a government hour in the State Duma (quote from TASS).
In May, President Vladimir Putin declaredthat objective information is in demand in Russia and Wikipedia cannot serve as the only source of educational content. In August in the country launched an analogue of Wikipedia, called “Runiversalis”, but its site stopped working a few hours after launch. The former editors of the Russian-language Wikipedia allegedly worked on the project.
