The model of an alien (ET the Extra-Terrestrial) from the film of the same name by Steven Spielberg was sold at auction for $ 2.6 million. He was sold at the “Symbols & Idols: Hollywood” auction held in Beverly Hills, California by Julien’s Auctions. The auction house valued the model from $2 million to $4 million, and bidding began at $500,000. The name of the buyer was not disclosed.
This is the original mechatronic (that is, created using precision mechanics, as well as electronic and other elements) model that was used in the film. True, the “skin” of the alien has decayed in 40 years, only the “skeleton” has survived. The model is a complex structure made of duralumin with 85 joints, which also includes cables, electronic components, etc. The model is still in working condition.
The model for the film, released in 1982, was created by the famous master of special effects Carlo Rambaldi. The creation of the alien then cost $ 1.5 million – with a film budget of $ 10 million. The model was kept in the family of Mr. Rambaldi, who decided to sell it after his death.
