Russian Ambassador Oleg Malginov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on Thursday. The reason is the statement of the writer Zakhar Prilepin about the annexation of Uzbekistan to Russia, reports the portal uznews.uz.
Prilepin previously said that it is necessary to annex the territories of the former USSR to Russia, and cited Uzbekistan as an example.
“In fact, I sincerely advocate that these territories, from where guest workers come to us, be simply annexed in their entirety, and the Russian language taught on the spot, so that they are not taught here, but already in Uzbekistan, for example,” Prilepin said .
In connection with this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan told the Russian ambassador “in principle” that they perceived this “with a feeling of deep concern.” They indicated that such thoughtless statements on the part of figures from friendly Russia do not correspond to the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership
Malginov, in response to this, emphasized that Prilepin’s statements “do not even remotely have anything in common” with the opinion of the Russian authorities. The Russian Foreign Ministry plans to comment on this incident in the near future, he added.
