Chairman of the Russian All-People’s Union party Sergei Baburin said “RIA News”that at the party congress they decided to nominate him for the upcoming presidential election.
“I proposed the candidacy of Anar Ramazanov. After this, the congress insisted on including two more candidates: me, Sergei Baburin, and Ivan Volkov from Yekaterinburg. Self-recusations were prohibited. Baburin was nominated in a secret ballot, with Anar Ramazanov in second place. The decision has been made,” said Mr. Baburin.
Sergei Baburin, 64, was a candidate in the 2018 presidential election. According to the voting results, he received 0.65% of the votes. He was a deputy of the I, II and IV convocations of the State Duma. From 2002 to 2012 – Rector of the Russian State Trade and Economic University.
Presidential elections will be held March 15–17, 2024. On December 19, the LDPR congress nominated the head of the party, Leonid Slutsky, as a candidate for the presidential elections. On December 22, the plenum of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation supported the candidacy of deputy Nikolai Kharitonov.
December 20 Central Election Commission registered initiative group to nominate Vladimir Putin as a candidate. According to the Central Election Commission, the number of applicants for nomination as candidates for the presidential election amounted to 29 people.
Earlier today, December 23, the CEC refused in registering the initiative group to nominate Ekaterina Duntsova as a presidential candidate. After the decision of the Central Election Commission, she turned to the Yabloko party with a request to nominate her as a candidate for the elections. At Yabloko statedthat party founder Grigory Yavlinsky will probably not run for president.
