The radio technical troops of the Russian Federation escorted 2 thousand reconnaissance aircraft in 2023

Combat crews of the radio technical troops of the Russian army discovered and escorted more than 2 million air objects in 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported. More than 600 thousand of them are foreign aircraft, more than 2 thousand are reconnaissance aircraft and more than 20 are strategic bombers.

The forces on duty were put on alert number one more than 4 thousand times. Ministry of Defense believes, that this “is a clear indicator of the high intensity of combat duty in the radio engineering troops.” Over the course of a year, military educational institutions trained more than 1 thousand radio engineering officers.

The radio engineering troops are armed with the Nebo-MM, Podlet, Kasta-VM, Observer-FSRiKVP, Obnovlenie, Niobium-M radar equipment and the Fundament-M automation equipment complexes, a remote indicator post “VIP-117M3”. The Ministry of Defense notes that their integrated use makes it possible to detect and track any means of aerospace attack: from small unmanned aerial vehicles to hypersonic missiles in the air and space. The operation is carried out taking into account the experience gained during military operations in Syria and Ukraine.
