The Ukrainian authorities have no plans to block the Telegram messenger in the country. This statement was made on Wednesday, March 27, by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn.

According to Yurchyshyn, the Ukrainian parliament is developing a bill that discusses methods for monitoring the content of social networks, including instant messengers. However, no one is going to completely block Telegram on the territory of Ukraine, the parliamentarian assured.

They started talking about a possible ban on Telegram in Ukraine after the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kirill Budanov (included in the Rosfinmonitoring list of persons involved in terrorism and extremism) called the messenger a serious problem of national security. At the same time, he assured that he opposes the suppression of freedom of speech, however “this is too much”.
