Ukraine will increase military spending by more than 500 billion hryvnia (about $13.6 billion), this will again require changing the budget for 2023, informed Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak on his Telegram channel.
He said that “this is not a mistake,” and the increase in the budget by 500 billion hryvnia is a record in the history of Ukraine. According to Zheleznyak, the changes are planned to be adopted this month.
“A couple of weeks ago, when the parliament adopted my amendment on the possibility of attracting +52 billion hryvnias for the army, I immediately warned that we would need even more money. It turns out 10 times more,” wrote the deputy.
For the nine months of 2022, net external financing of the budget of Ukraine reached 34.1%, Vedomosti calculated according to the data of the country’s Ministry of Finance on its execution. In 2021, financing from abroad occupied only 7% of the budget.
In late February, US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander statedthat Ukraine should start planning its defense spending and buying some weapons from the US.
