The queue of trucks to enter the EU from Belarus has increased 10 times

The queue of trucks to enter the EU countries from Belarus increased 10 times after the closure of the border checkpoint “Bobrovniki”, informed State Border Committee (SBC) of Belarus.

“The closure of the Bobrovniki (Berestovitsa) checkpoint by the Polish authorities and the restriction of the movement of trucks in Kukuryki (Kozlovichi) led to a redistribution of traffic flows, a deterioration in the situation in other directions,” the press service of the department said.

The border committee added that the Polish checkpoint Kukuryki became the busiest for entry – the Belarusian side issued about 60% of the freight transport from the norm per day.

Also, the committee reported an increase in the accumulation of trucks in the Lithuanian direction. Near the checkpoints Medininkai (Kamenny Log), Lavorishkes (Kotlovka) and Šalchininkai (Benyakoni) more than 300 heavy trucks are fixed. According to the estimates of the Belarusian department, about 42% of trucks from the norm were issued per day.

On February 9, the Polish authorities announced the closure of the border crossing with Belarus in Bobrovniki. According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the country, Mariusz Kaminski, this decision was made on the basis of “important interests of state security.” On February 17, the government of Belarus, in response to such a decision restricted entrance for Polish trucks and tractors.

On February 21, the movement of trucks at the border crossing in Kukuryki was also limited, after which Kazakh carriers complained to a difficult situation when entering the EU. According to the press service of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”, this crossing was the last opportunity that Kazakh cargo carriers could use after the crossing in Bobrovniki was closed.
