The protection of the President of Slovakia increased due to threats to her family

Slovak President Zuzana Chaputova and members of her family receive threats, in connection with which it was necessary to strengthen the security of the head of state. About it informs news portal SME.

The President noted that in threatening letters she is called an “American agent” and accused of collaborating with businessman George Soros. According to Chaputova’s common-law husband Yuray Rizman, more and more threats began to come against her children. In particular, in the letters she is given conditions, the failure to comply with which may lead to harm to children.

Some envelopes come with cartridges inside, and the letters contain insults and harsh anti-Semitic remarks, writes SME. In addition, anonymous reports were received about bombs planted in her house in the town of Pezinok.

The Slovak National Crime Agency has already registered four letters threatening the president. No charges have yet been brought against anyone, the portal clarifies.

In the coming days, the President of Slovakia should announce a decision on whether she will be re-elected for a second term. SME writes that the threats began to come against the backdrop of worsening relations between Chaputova and the opposition Direction – Social Democracy party. According to the President, the atmosphere of hatred around her is created by the leader of the party, ex-Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico. She stated that she intends to sue the politician.

In December 2022, Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in the government of Prime Minister Eduard Heger. Early elections were scheduled for September 30, 2023. Until that moment, Chaputova instructed Heger to temporarily fulfill his duties, but on May 7, the prime minister announced his resignation. The President intends to appoint a new government on May 15 without the support of political parties. The Social Democrats insist on holding parliamentary elections in the coming summer months.
