The side of the state prosecution requested for politician Maxim Katz (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) a sentence of 10 years in prison in the case of fakes about the Russian army. This was reported to Vedomosti by the press service of the Basmanny Court.

During the debate, the prosecutor asked Katz to be sentenced to 10 years in prison. The defense asked to justify the blogger. The verdict is expected on August 24.

Katz is charged under paragraph “d” part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information containing data on the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation). According to investigators, he published a video on his YouTube channel, in which he disseminated “deliberately false information containing data about the use of the Russian Armed Forces to destroy settlements and civilians during a special military operation in Ukraine.”

In 2022, Katz was put on the wanted list; in March, the court arrested him in absentia. In April, the Prosecutor General’s Office approved the indictment in the Katz case, which is being considered by the Basmanny District Court of Moscow.

The Ministry of Justice entered Katz into the register of individuals acting as a foreign agent on July 22, 2022. Blogger Veronika Belotserkovskaya, municipal deputy for the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow Ilya Yashin, actress and TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva and others were included in the list along with him.
